A new wakeboarding facility at Chasewater is set to host a national competition.

The Wakelake straightline cable tow site opened in July and will now welcome the National Grassroots Tour on Sunday (September 15).

“We are delighted they are bringing the Tour to Staffordshire,” a spokesperson said. “Over 40 riders will be taking part in the event including some professional wakeboarders who will demonstrate a wide range of breath-taking tricks that will thrill the audience.

“The practice sessions run through the morning from 9am onwards, with the competition starting in the afternoon.

“There are a range of divisions including Juniors, Ladies, Veterans and the elite Mens Open. There is no cost to come along and watch this spectacular event which promises to become an annual occurrence in the West Midlands.

“The location of the cables parallel to the dam wall at Chasewater mean there are plenty of excellent viewing opportunities, and people are encouraged to come along on Sunday to watch this spectacle and see riders of all standards.

“There will also be an opportunity to enter a competition to win a number of free places on one of our beginner courses.”
