A SOLITARY first half goal saw Chasetown fall short at home to fellow play-off candidates Bury.
Jamie Hawkins’ side went into the game full of confidence following an impressive victory away from home against league leaders Lower Breck last time out.
But the Scholars boss was disappointed with his team for not being able to seize an opportunity to establish themselves in the play-off spots.
He said:
“To come off with a narrow defeat from an error, I’m just really frustrated. I feel it’s a missed opportunity.
“The overall performance wasn’t bad – we’ve gone toe-to-toe with Bury. But, ultimately we’ve lost the fixture.
“It comes down to quality in the end. We got into some promising areas and our quality was lacking. The final pass, the dispatch, the delivery just wasn’t there today.”
An error in defence gifted the visitors an opportunity on goal which Leo Graham converted.
Chasetown struggled to create many clearcut chances of their own as both teams traded attacks throughout.
Hawkins said:
“We knew they’d have a lot of the ball. When we had our moments, our quality was lacking – forcing things, rushing the play forwards and not controlling momentum.”
“It’s points that we’ve not managed to pick up. In the bigger picture, there’s still a long way to go with plenty of games to be played.
“I don’t think this affects the season too much. However, we can’t keep accepting that – we need to be more ruthless and nastier at times.”
