CHASETOWN’S manager says his side must step up to the challenge posed by Runcorn Linnets when the two play-off candidates clash this weekend.
Jamie Hawkins is hopeful that The Scholars can continue a flawless league record since they kicked off the new year in victorious fashion against Sporting Khalsa.
He said:
“As always, we do our homework on Runcorn and find a line up which will cause them some problems as well as enabling us to combat their threats.
“We are in a run of good form in the league so we are keen to maintain this.”
Chasetown departed the Staffordshire Senior Cup after falling to Leek Town in midweek.
But Hawkins is adamant that the result will not affect upcoming fixtures.
He said:
“We do not like losing games of football, regardless of the competition, but I wouldn’t say that our defeat on Tuesday adds any extra incentive.
“Winning games and trying to challenge at the top end of the league against some very good football clubs has been our incentive since the first game. That hasn’t changed.”
The Linnets experienced a New Year hangover when they shipped five goals against Witton Albion, but secured maximum points against Vauxhall Motors last.
Hawkins said:
“We have to make sure that we are ready to compete in all aspects of the game, both physically and technically. “
“If we can hit our own levels of performance then we can make it uncomfortable for Runcorn.”
Kick off at the Scholars Ground is at 3pm on Saturday.
