Lichfield City FC picked up a valuable point on their travels after sharing the spoils with unbeaten league leaders Studley.

The result capped a Jekyll and Hyde week for Paul Holt’s men who had been tamed by ten-man Pilkington at the weekend.

But a much-improved performance saw them pick up a point and feel somewhat disappointed not to secure all three after dominating the game for long spells and creating a number of chances.

Youngster Ashley Evans had the first opportunity when he rounded the keeper but could only find the side-netting.

Kyle Minto was deployed as a lone striker and was causing real problems for the table-toppers and almost broke the deadlock when his diving header somehow squirmed wide.

Olly Budd was the next Lichfield player to try his luck when he blazed over from eight yards at the start of the second half, while City stopper Craig Johnson did well to deny Sam Wills at the other end.

City were made to pay for their failure to find the net when, with 20 minutes remaining, Connor Deards sprung the offside trap before rounding Johnson and slotting home.

But Lichfield refused to crumble and threw the kitchen sink at their hosts as they went in search of a leveller. It finally paid off in the dying moments when Minto fed Danny Thurstance who rifled a left foot shot into the net.
