A Lichfield school has been awarded a Quality Mark for its work providing guidance and support for pupils entering the world of work.

The accolade recognised Nether Stowe School’s endeavours to ensure its students are prepared and have the skills required for the workplace or to advance to further education.

Headteacher Ruth Poppleton said:

“We are very proud to receive this award. It recognises the work we have been doing as a pilot school on raising the participation age. Both year 7 and 10 have visited university to experience what it would be like to study there.

“We are keen to promote all routes at post-16. We are the first school in the county to run an Apprenticeship Workshop which helps present and ex students gain employment.”

Nether Stowe, working closely with Connexions, was the first school within the county to set up an Apprenticeship Workshop, which included representatives from a number of local businesses. Students were able to meet apprenticeship partners to discuss options and possible future pathways.

The school boasts the highest number of pupils entering the apprenticeship scheme within the county. As part of a relatively recent development within careers progression, the scheme has helped a large number of current and ex students to secure employment and a future career pathway.
