Lichfield City FC have added to their backroom staff ahead of their trip to Newcastle Town with the appointment of Raymond Kelly as coach.

Boss Dean Gilbert is over the moon with Kelly’s arrival ahead of their clash this evening (January 27).

He explained:

“We are delighted to have Raymond on board. His experience and knowledge of the game will be invaluable to myself and assistant, Andy McRobbie.”

City travel to the Lyme Valley Stadium this evening looking to make it through to the Semi Finals of the Staffordshire FA Challenge Cup. It will be a difficult encounter against opposition from a higher division but Gilbert is hoping to cause a cup upset.

He explained:

“We have nothing to lose. The onus is on them. I’m proud of the fact we’ve got this far and anything else now is a bonus. My lads will relish playing there under the lights at the Lyme Valley Stadium and you just never know in cup football.”
